Save Druridge is a passionate group of people who are currently opposing the planned Banks Highthorn Open Cast mine adjacent to Druridge Bay in Northumberland. Through this photographic competition we want to try and highlight the beauty of this coastal area and show what could be lost if open cast mining takes place here. We are especially interested in images that highlight the diversity of the natural environment but images of people enjoying the beach and ‘Beach Life’ activities such as dog walking, horse riding, surfing, picnics etc will also be very welcome. Seascapes, landscapes, plants, agriculture and buildings could also feature in your photographs.
Quite simply, show us what you love about Druridge Bay!
This competition is open to amateur photographers only.
The photos must be taken in the area between Druridge Pools and Cresswell Village along the coast and inland as far as Widdrington Village and the A1068 Coast Road. Virtually this whole area will be lost to open cast if Banks Mining get approval for the Highthorn site.
There are 3 age categories: Under 11, 12 – 18 and over 18.
Each person may enter a maximum of 3 photographs.
Photos need to be submitted to: sdphotocomp@btinternet.com by Monday 31st August 2015
Photo captions should accompany all submissions, and should include the subject of the image and the name and age of the photographer. In the case of children’s entries in the Under 11 and 12 – 18 categories a parent or guardian’s name must also be included.
If possible, please also include a short sentence explaining what you love about Druridge Bay, what it means to you and why you want to save the area from Open Cast Mining.
